We are a six-piece Neo-Soul and RnB group currently shaking things up in the Liverpool music scene.
Since meeting at university, we’ve been busy blending classic jazz and soul harmonies with the bigger production styles of modern pop and rock. It creates a sound that is sometimes hard to predict—think of a mix between Olivia Dean and Herbie Hancock!
As a self-starting band, we take pride in doing it all ourselves.
We recorded and produced our debut single, ‘Just a Boy,’ and our ‘On-Set’ EP entirely on our own, and we've already celebrated over 20,000 streams on Spotify.
Fresh off headline shows at the Jacaranda Baltic and Zanzibar, we are excited to keep pushing our limits.
We’re a collective of six friends, and every person adds a vital ingredient to the Berena sound! Josie Lomax is our voice, blending her classical background with a modern, soulful vibe for those signature melodies and runs. Setting the rhythmic foundation is Daud Kay on bass, who weaves together the complexity of prog-rock with the smoothness of jazz, giving us our distinctive groove.
The guitar work is a dialogue between Isaac Tingay (who brings the rootsy, blues heat) and Sam Devonport (who throws in the experimental, textural layers). Charlie Corry masterminds the harmony from the keys, using his deep understanding of jazz to create those colourful, unpredictable progressions. Finally, keeping the whole ship steady is Tom McNally on drums, anchoring our tracks with rhythms that pull from both jazz tradition and Latin energy.
